Selly Oak town centre is already one of the most diverse shopping areas in the city. Serving the needs of the student as well as year-round population, you can find everything from the “big-box” retailers to unique niche independents as well, of course, as a bustling and vibrant nightlife.
Some of the biggest regeneration projects in the city are currently taking place in Selly Oak, the new hospital and Bristol Road by-pass, when completed, they will bring thousands more residents, workers and consumers to the area, as well as allowing Selly Oak town centre to offer a further improved and even more relaxed welcome when you visit.
Shopping
Approaching Selly Oak from the south, the first thing you come across is Battery Retail Park, home to national DIY, electrical and fashion retailers, as well as a major supermarket.
And just across the road is Oak Tree Lane, which boasts a vibrant range of niche independents that again includes fashion retailers, grocers, gifts, cafes, jewellers and furniture shops – you can even find a kite shop and a range of healthy living practitioners, from optometrists to herbal medicines.
Heading towards the city centre under the railway bridge, Bristol Road is bounded at each end by national supermarket chains and in between, you will find more hidden gems in and among the predominantly night-time orientated offer.
You will find florists, hair salons and stationers as well as one of the city’s longest established and best-loved independent book sellers.
Eating & drinking

Every taste is catered for, from traditional fish and chips to a wide range of Asian restaurants, and pretty much everything in between!
