Halloween Centenary screening of the spooky-horror film The Hunchback of Notre Dame! Starring the unforgettable Lon Chaney as the disfigured bell-ringer - Quasimodo. This unique performance will be accompanied by live improvisation on the Town Hall's mighty Hill pipe organ by the UKs celebrated classic silent film organist Donald MacKenzie.
This is the film which launched Chaney into stardom - based on Victor Hugo's novel Notre Dame de Paris, it was produced by Universal Pictures.
Orson Wells said of the film, "Chaney was not merely horrific, he was exactly what the hunchback ought to be...exactly what he was in the Victor Hugo novel...and with all that makeup glued onto him and limping under that hump, there's still a performance...a huge performance, entirely satisfactory in its own terms."
Why not do something different for Halloween this year and join us for this an authentic gothic performance, with an unforgettable movie experience at the Town Hall, immersed in the awesome and atmospheric sound of the pipe organ, played in Donald MacKenzie's inimitable style.
This will be an enjoyable and exhilarating Halloween night out for all!
