Birmingham Royal Ballet

Britain's premier touring ballet company, the Birmingham Royal Ballet (formerly Sadler's Wells Royal Ballet) relocated in August 1990 to purpose-built premises at the Birmingham Hippodrome. The Company leads the world in the creation of new and innovative popular ballets, shaped by a host of international choreographers including director David Bintley.

Birmingham Royal Ballet performs regularly throughout the year at the Hippodrome, But it is also welcomed enthusiastically around the world with recent tours to the USA, Hong Kong and South Africa.

It’s now 50 years since the Royal Charter was first bestowed on the BRB. It’s reputation has never been stronger. Following ten years of applause for David Bintley's creative leadership, the Company now enthrals Birmingham’s ballet lovers in its wonderful home within the acclaimed new Hippodrome complex. As well as the state-of-the-art theatre, the BRB has the Jerwood Centre for the Prevention and Treatment of Dance Injuries, and the Patrick Centre, a studio theatre for developing existing new works.

Formed in 1990 when Sadler's Wells Royal Ballet moved to Birmingham, they have a reputation for outstanding versatility and flexibility; able to create challenging and avant garde works while still bringing fresh energy to the classics.

The arrival of Elmhurst School for Dance in Edgbaston in 2004 is another crucial plank in the Company’s determination to nurture and retain the best young dancers in the world.
