20 QUESTIONS with……Kemy Agustien
The BCFC midfielder answers questions on his early career, the squad and life off the pitch.
EARLY DAYS…
1. Which club did you support as a youngster?
The clubs that I always liked were Arsenal and Barcelona because of the way they played football.
2. Who was your childhood footballing hero?
Zinedine Zidane and Edgar Davids. They both had great technique and could do a lot with the ball. Every game they played in they wanted to do well.
3. Who was the biggest influence on your early career?
My Mother. My mother and father got divorced when I was 11. I have three sisters and two brothers, so it’s a big family. But my mother always spent time on the sidelines at my games cheering me on.
4. Were your parents or brothers/sisters sporty?
My mother played volleyball, but she quit to come and watch me play football and my father played football.
5. What was your favourite non-sporting subject at school?
I didn’t really have one. I think I made my teachers crazy because I didn’t like going to school, but I finished it because my mother pushed me to.
6. What were your exam results like?
My grades were always good.
7. Were you generally a well behaved pupil at school?
I was okay but I liked to have fun. I was always laughing.
STORY SO FAR…
8. What has been the highlight of your career to date?
I think my debut for Willem II. I was 17 and scored in my first game. There was also another game two years ago. A good friend of mine was killed by a train and when I spoke to his father two days before the match I said that I was going to score one goal in memory of my friend and another for my mother, because it was her birthday – and I scored twice!
9. And what about the game you’d like to forget?
It’s difficult to say. There’s not really been one.
10. What do you think is the best goal you have ever scored?
It was playing for the youth team and I scored from the half way line when I chipped the goalkeeper.
11. What has been the most disappointing moment of your career so far?
When I wasn’t chosen for the Dutch Olympic team because normally I was selected in my national U21 team.
IN THE DRESSING ROOM…
12. What is your normal pre-match routine?
I just listen to some music and try and relax.
13. Who is the loudest player in the dressing room?
Mostly Ridgewell!
14. Who is the funniest member of the squad?
James McFadden.
15. Who is the vainest member of the squad?
Garry O’Connor.
16. Who is your closest friend in football?
I’ve got several in football so it’s difficult to say, but I’ve also got a lot of friends outside of football which helps to keep your feet on the ground.
AWAY FROM FOOTBALL…
17. What do you like to do to relax outside of football?
I’ve got a little boy aged 14 months who is crazy about football! When he sees a ball he goes totally mad for it and always wants to play.
18. What is the best thing about living in the Birmingham area?
I live in Dickens Heath which is quiet and a good place to bring up children. I haven’t seen a lot of Birmingham but from what I have seen, it’s a great place to live.
19. Who would be your three ideal dinner guests?
Anybody that’s prepared to have a good time is invited!
20. Do you have thoughts or plans for what you’d like to do after your playing career finishes?
No, I’m just a person who lives from day to day.
